Master's Program in History
Department: Humanities and Social Sciences
Program Objective: The objective of the Thesis-Based Master’s Program in History is to conduct research, analysis, and teaching activities in the field of history; to train experts capable of critical thinking; and to ensure that the discipline of history achieves a more prominent position in our country. The Master’s Program in History with Thesis will provide students with the necessary historical knowledge and teach them historical concepts and methods. Through this program, students will acquire the ability to obtain, evaluate, and interpret discipline-specific knowledge, thereby gaining the opportunity to become skilled academics and teachers. By offering comparative and interdisciplinary perspectives, particularly in fields such as Ottoman History, Modern Turkish History, and European History, this program will prepare students aspiring to pursue academic careers for doctoral programs.

Graduation Requirements:
To graduate from this program, students must: complete a minimum of 21 credits across 7 courses (at least two of which must be department-required courses), one “Seminar” course, and the “Research Methods and Scientific Ethics” course; meet the publication requirement; and successfully defend their thesis.
They must earn at least a CB grade in all courses, have earned a minimum of 120 ECTS credits, and have a Weighted Cumulative Grade Point Average of at least 2.50/4.00.
Students who have completed their coursework and moved on to the thesis phase must enroll each semester in the “Specialization Course” and “Master’s Thesis” courses offered by their academic advisors until they graduate.
Master’s Thesis Publication Requirement: For a student to graduate with a master’s degree, the scientific work derived from the thesis, in collaboration with the thesis advisor, must meet at least one of the following conditions:
a) The work must have been presented at a national or international peer-reviewed conference and published in the conference proceedings, or the student must have presented an oral or poster presentation,
b) Have at least one article published or accepted for publication in national or international peer-reviewed journals,
c) Participation in a successfully completed national or international project, or submission of an interim report deemed successful by the funding institution,
ç) Have documented an approved patent, utility model, or industrial design.

Who Can Apply?
To apply to the History Thesis-Based Master’s Program, the applicant must hold a diploma from a four-year college or equivalent higher education institution and have achieved a minimum standard score of 65 on the Academic Personnel and Graduate Education Entrance Exam (ALES/verbal + equal weighting), and a score of at least 50 on a foreign language exam accepted by ÖSYM (YÖKDİL, YDS, EDYS, KPDS, ÜDS) or at least 60 on the foreign language exam administered by YTÜ.

Students who have graduated from four-year undergraduate programs in History are considered to be from the same field. |
